About GESA & WGO

The Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) is the peak membership organisation for Australian healthcare professionals and researchers working in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. As a society GESA sets, promotes and continuously improves the standards of clinical practice in gastroenterology and hepatology throughout Australia. GESA works closely with its members ensuing the highest standards are set when it comes to patient care. As the voice for gastroenterologists and hepatologists, GESA works with the Federal and State Departments of Health and other policy-setting organisations to promote the highest standards in research, education, patient care, and clinical practice. GESA members represent the organisation on committees and advisory groups whose purpose it is to shape the future of gastroenterology and hepatology in Australia.

The World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) is a federation of 119 Member Societies and four Regional Associations of gastroenterology representing over 60,000 individual members worldwide.

The WGO, a 501(c)(3) organization, focuses on the improvement of standards in training, education, and the practice of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and other related disciplines worldwide. Our educational initiatives include Training Centers around the world, Train the Trainers Workshops, public awareness campaigns such as World Digestive Health Day and Global Guidelines with a special Cascade feature providing solutions adaptable to varying resource levels around the world. Additionally, the biennial World Congress of Gastroenterology (WCOG) and international meetings profile the latest educational and scientific developments in the field.
