Travel Information

Unless you are an Australian citizen, you will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in the country. All other passport holders, regardless of age, must apply for a visa before leaving home. Please see further details below.

    NB: Eligibility for an eVisitor visa and ETA will be determined by the country of passport that the applicant holds.

    As a business visitor, you can:

    • Make general business or employment enquiries

    • Investigate, negotiate, enter into or review a business contract

    • Conduct activities as part of an official government visit

    • Take part in a conference, trade fair or seminar. You can’t be paid by the organisers to take part

    • Undertake tourist activities

    Visitor (subclass 600) Business visa applicants should include as much information as possible to support their visa applications (see: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/visitor-600/business-visitor-stream#HowTo). 

    In addition, visa applicants should include the following information:

    • Evidence of any international travel outside of their own country (for example, copies of visas and passport pages containing entry and departure stamps)

    • Information and evidence of attendance at similar events of this type/nature.

  • Invitation letters can be downloaded from your registration dashboard. This letter assists with your Visa application. You will be able to download an invitation letter once you have paid for your registration fee in full and have entered in your passport details.

    How to download the invitation letter:

    • Log on to the registration dashboard as a returning delegate by entering your email and password.

    • Scroll the menu to the 'Document' section and select the button 'Enter Details'.

    • Every field must be filled in for a Visa letter to be generated. Once all details have been filled in, click 'GO'. You will be taken back to the main screen and now a button 'Download Letter' will appear and by clicking this it will generate a PDF visa letter.

    Please email the Conference Secretariat if you are having difficulties downloading a Letter of Invitation from your dashboard.

  • Visa applicants outside of Australia will need to provide biometrics when they apply for a visa that is part of the Australian biometrics program, or where they are from a country, or located in a country at time of application that is part of the Australian biometrics program.

Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport, known locally as Tullamarine Airport, is the main international airport serving the city of Melbourne. It has Australia's second largest passenger traffic. The airport operates 24 hours a day and has on-site parking, shopping and dining. Melbourne Airport is the main and sole international airport serving Victoria. Melbourne airport operates 300+ international flights per week and 76 destinations direct to Melbourne. Most delegates will travel through hubs such as Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Doha.

Getting Around

To get from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), you have several options. The most convenient is taking the SkyBus City Express service, which runs frequently from the airport to Southern Cross Station in the CBD. From Southern Cross Station, you can either take a tram or walk. If opting for the tram, board any tram heading south on Route 96, 109, or 12, which stops near MCEC. Alternatively, taxis and rideshare services like Uber or DiDi are available directly from the airport and will take you to MCEC in approximately 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Climate and Weather

During spring average temperatures range from 9.6 - 19.6°C (49.3 - 67.3°F). The season is known as the most variable of the year, when weather can quickly change from calm and sunny to cold and windy. Pack your umbrella – October is the wettest month with roughly 10 days of rainfall.

Telecommunications

Local SIM cards can be purchased round-the-clock at convenience stores. Delegates may also consider buying a local SIM card at the Arrivals Hall of the Adelaide Airport upon landing. Most common brands used are Vodafone, Telstra and Optus.

Currency and Foreign Exchange

Australia has a decimal system with 100 cents to the dollar ($AUD). Coins have values of 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, $1 and $2 dollars. Notes have values of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 AUD. A 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in the price of most items.

Major city bank branches can exchange foreign currency. Foreign currency exchange bureaus are also available at the airport and in Melbourne's central business district. ATMs (automatic teller machines) are widely available in the city and regional areas. You can find current exchange rates here.

Tipping is not customary in Australia and is at your discretion.

Public Holiday

Grand Final Eve is a regional public holiday held in Victoria, Australia. It will be observed on Friday 26 September 2025, the day before the AFL Grand Final match on the Saturday.

Getting Around

Whether you self-drive or take advantage of Melbourne’s efficient public transport system, you’ll find it easy and efficient to get around the city.

Melbourne offers free tram rides within the city centre. To use public transport outside of the free tram zone, you need to purchase a myki card. You can purchase a myki card from retail outlets displaying the myki sign, visitor centres and at train stations.

  • Use your myki card on trains, trams and buses. You’ll need to load your card with some money to cover your fares. You can top it up at convenience stores and train stations as your balance runs low. 

  • You can also purchase a myki Explorer kit, which includes a myki card loaded with a full day of unlimited travel on trains, trams and buses in metropolitan Melbourne, handy maps and discounts on tickets to major attractions.

  • To start your ride, tap your myki card on the reader when you board your selected mode of transport and be sure to tap off when you disembark.
