A/Prof Amany Zekry
Amany Zekry is an A/Professor of Medicine, a clinical academic at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology services at St George Hospital UNSW. She is a researcher with interests in basic research and clinical medicine. In her clinical research, she focuses on improving screening and treatment for viral hepatitis to meet national targets. Her current basic research involves combining human and animal experiments to understand the role of the microbiome in liver cancer. Amany has received over $13 million in grant funding for her research.
She is also dedicated to bridging gaps in healthcare delivery for marginalized populations and has collaborated with various organisations and individuals to develop community-based models of care for viral hepatitis and liver cancer. Her efforts have been recognized with awards at the national and state level, including the NSW top 50 public sector women award in 2018. She has also played a significant role in policy formation and continues to serve on the NSW ministerial advisory committee for viral hepatitis. Previously, she served as the chair of the Australian Liver Association and was involved in securing funding and developing consensus statements related to hepatitis C and liver cancer.
