Prof Susana Lopes

Susana Lopes is the Co-Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology WGO Training Center in Porto in Centro Hospitalar Universitário São Joao- Porto, Portugal

She has received her medical degree and PhD from the University of Porto, in 1996 and 2018 respectively. Her PhD research was focused on endoscopy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and at the present time she is Associate Professor of Gastroenterology in the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto.

Her Clinical and Research interests include Inflammatory Bowel Disease (in particular clinical trials and drug development) and Interventional Endoscopy, with particular interest in advanced endoscopic ultrasound.

She has published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals and received 12 national honors and awards in the field of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Hepatology. Within the American College of Gastroenterology, she served as Governor of Portugal (international Region) for 2 consecutive terms (2016-2022). She also served as the President of the Portuguese Ultrasound Group and is currently the President of the Portuguese Society of Endoscopy.

She has continuously been working since 2011 in different WGO Committees and Interest Groups, with emphasis in the Outreach Group, Hepatology Interest Group, and Train the Trainers Committee serving as faculty in multiple Courses. At the present time she is the Chair of the newly IBD Committee.
